As usual, I am a little slow on the uptake, but I have just discovered that one of my favorite films, Carpenters The Thing is having a Remake/Prequel, this time from the point of view of the Norwegian Camp - Which was, to remind you, the first camp to encounter the Thing, driving it like a bunch of shooting madmen over to the neighbouring American camp.
Since I like films that are cross genre, or could sit in several genres at once The Thing is a classic for me and a prequel, as apposed to a complete remake, if done well, could be as fun as meeting with some long lost old Friends.
Matthijs Van Hejningen, who will direct Ronald Moore’s screenplay, wants the main character to be R.J Macready’s brother (again, to remind those of you who have forgotten, Macready was one of the last two to survive (or not).
Any way, here is one of my favorite scenes from The Thing
Dan Taylor, from Exploitation Retrospect says:
I’m alarmed by reports that director Matthijs Van Hejningen is pushing to make one of the leads the brother of Macready (Kurt Russell’s character). It would have to be an older brother because once Mama and Papa Macready had a kid as cool as RJ they’d know it was time to stop. Why tamper with perfection?
You got to admit - He does have a point :-)
