I feel trob zombiehe need to apologise for doing very little writing lately, but sometimes life seems to overtake and this blog takes a back seat for a while.

I, do still keep abreast with the horror scene, mostly adding movies to my much watch list, and get very little actual watching done.

Rob Zombie’s movies are on that list ( I have actually watched a couple of his movies - the House of 1000 Corpses, and The Devils rejects, but that was a while ago and and I would love to see  them again) due to the hullabaloo that is surrounding his latest movie plan.

Kate from the Tenebrous Empire sums it up pretty nicely, and since I agree with her point of view, I will just send you over to read her post In Defence of Rob Zombie

I agree with the post you linked to, as well as what you had to say in your comment to the post. I have to wonder if people that hate RZ so much would still feel that way if he had started out as a director. I still don’t really care for RZ’s first film, but I loved his second film. I’m just a fan, so I have no idea if RZ is a good director, as far as the craft goes. What I do know is that I have enjoyed his films, for the most part, so that makes them good enough for me.

Heather - art and movies are for the people that "use" them or view them. "Just" is not a term I would use when it comes to you and horror movies :-)…
  • mermaidheather responded:
Hmm…what term would you use then?

Pro fan, Horror specialist, Phd in horror - I can think of many. Just is belittling… and you know your stuff, both in the amount of movies you have seen and in your ability to dissect and review them.

Aww shucks (kicking the ground and blushing)

    I’m pro-RZ.
I can’t help but wonder if it was just backlash over the anticipation of House of 1K Corpses. Zombie arrived with a small army of folks telling us to get ready to have our faces rocked off. Horror fans get prickly about that. Sometimes, as in Raimi’s new one, the fans hop on the bandwagon. Other times, as in Zombie’s case, the fans feel a sudden impulse rebel against the marketing machine and rebel. Just bad luck more than anything else.

crwm - that’s a smart observation about the marketing…I hadn’t thought of that

i vote for RZ also…i think what makes his films so apealing to me is the grittines and the in your face reality in the way it is filmed…i think that his recent remakke of HALLOWEEN is a great example of this…the reality of young mike myers life is hard to watch without emotionally flinching….

    fantastic observation
