(Joachim Løvf) : << I love when a movie manages do give you a feeling of having seen a lot of gore, when you actually haven't. FROM HELL had that effect on me. >>
(Ed Luskey) : << Did you see a PG 13 cut? Maybe I'm getting old but there seemed to be a fair share of blood and guts during the killings! The cuts were quick but there enough red there for me to notice it. >>
(Joachim Løvf) : << Extremely quick cuts, and not as much blood as one would think. I think. >>
!!SPOILERS!!
Liz Stride's death was pretty graphic...I had two friends who (not really too wild about the movie in the first place) left the room after it happened. I thought the film actually made a good balance between gore and suggestion, as with the lobotomy scenes. My aforementioned friends covered their eyes during the first lobotomy, though nothing was really shown, the sound alone convinced them something nasty had happened.
Too bad the film was saddled with such a corny, contrived script full of moldy Ripper theories. (ending with one of the least believable of all) However, the fact that the Hughes Bros. almost made me forget the bad script with oppressive grim atmosphere (plus excellent performances from Depp and Holm) is impressive, but frustrating.
