The trailer for the new film 'LovecraCked'... a 'documentary' chronicling the life and literature of everyone's favorite cuddly cthulhu: H.P. Lovecraft, is now available for viewing here:

Does the film have anything to do with Lovecraft? It did not seem so from the trailer.

It's a documentary-spoof really Lovecraft is an author whom I admire greatly and has inspired me personally but unless you're a real horror fan, most people seem never to have heard of him. I always wanted to make a serious adaptation of one of his stories but for many reasons, incl. money, I was never able to get one off the ground. Comedy somehow seemed like the obvious alternative and since Lovecraft has had such a significant influence on modern horror but most people have no idea who he is... this - to my twisted sense of humor - seemed like a subject ripe for comedic exploitation

In the end, the movie satires investigative journalism and pretty much anything goes. I've been a big fan of Monty Python and South Park for a long time if this gives you any idea as to my sensibilities.

Hope that clarifies the intent somewhat for you.

Be well, Elias

Okay, I'll admit I didn't go door to door polling the topic... but nevertheless I did find very often that your average everyday joe really didn't have a clue who Lovecraft was. Sometimes they'd get this far off look in their eyes like somewhere faint bells of recognition were going off... they'd look like they were struggling... so I'd tell them he was an influential horror author of the early to mid 20th century and then most often that far away look would suddenly disappear and they'd say, 'Nope Never heard of him.' Or someting along those lines

Poe gets a lot more attention than Lovecraft and it's probably quite arguable that Lovecraft has had just as much of an influence if not more on horror literature than Poe himself.

To me the irony is that more of your average everyday people have probably heard of the Necronomicon than of its creator

To be honest, I'm not sure how often I discuss Lovecraft with random people.

You're probably right. Most people don't read at all. It's sad.

What can I say... some play pool, some go to the movies... I like to spend my spare time querying random people on the street about HP Lovecraft

It is sad... Damn, now I'm all depressed

[Drum Roll!!!]

Chvad has faced his fear! The MOV trailer is up. Unfortunately the quality isn't quite up to par w/ the eletist WMV version, but hopefully this will suffice for those of you whos cranky old MACs are indisposed toward WMVs
