OK, I've recently picked up a few budget discs that I really enjoyed. Devil Bat, Dead Men Walk & Mad Monster. The 2 titles on Alpha Video (MM & DMW) are pretty lousy quality, but I loved the movies. Also Return of the Vampire, but that's a good disc. Can anybody point me to a site which lists different versions of these types of movies on DVD and which company has the best print? I guess a lot are in public domain, or have shaky legal situations which accounts for the oddball releases of the titles.

Thanks,

The Devil Bat has been released in a remastered edition by Lugosi Enterprises. The picture quality is about as good as will ever be seen, and it includes a commentary with a film historian and Bela Lugosi Jr. a bonus radio drama featuring Bela Lugosi, and some other junk. I ordered it off of Amazon for ten bucks a couple of months ago (look for the alternate 'new and used' section for the best value)

Get rid of those ALPHA dvd's as soon as possible! If it is Lugosi films you are after, then THE DEVIL BAT is available from Lugosi Enterprises at lugosi.com from the actual estate of Bela Lugosi and look great! Remastered from original 35mm prints, commentaries, photo and poster galleries, theatrical trailers and each dvd comes with a Bela Lugosi Golden Age Radio Drama. Well worth picking up and the films never looked better! So far they have released BOWERY AT MIDNIGHT and THE DEVIL BAT. I'm told two more are due out soon. Mark cultcuts magazine

Dead Men Walk is available on an excellent Roan double feature disc with the superior The Monster Maker. You can see this at DVD Planet...

Thanks guys, Devil Bat actually looks pretty good, it's on Diamond. I probably will buy the one from Lugosi, hopefully that will help suport further releases. I would love to get rid of the Alpha releases, that's why I'm writing to find a comparison which will show a superior version.

Anyone with info on DVD comparisons of these types of titles?

Thanks,

I'm sure there are sites that do full comparisons of all releases for a title, but would have no idea where to point you to. I just do research on google before I buy to make sure the film is uncut and the quality, etc. There are also a couple of dvd newsgroups and many websites with dvd reviews. Mark cultcuts magazine
