I must say, there are still some films coming out today that i quite enjoy, like the Orphanage, i really liked that and i´m not the biggest fan of Spain! However i miss stuff like Nightmare on Elm Street, maybe i am just having an early midlife crisis and being nostalgic as that was one of the films that i grew up with, but there was just something about that time. For instance, if we look at The American Werewolf in London, quality film with a lot of funny bits in it, if you look at the more recent An American Werewolf in Paris, hmm hmm! Don´t get me wrong i don´t hate these new films, the Saw saga is something i also like, although i think it should have stopped by now, but i just think there isn´t that magic about them anymore, like Frankenstein, has anyone seen the video for Dig up her bones by the Misfits, it definitely adds a great touch to a great song! Anyway...

For me, I love horror films in general. Old or new, I love them. I don't love all of them of course, but I have fun watching them all the same. A while back a blog went off on todays horror movies, basically saying how bad they were compared to the horror films they grew up watching.

I agree that the films you first started to watch, in your case Nightmare On Elm Street, are more scary because we aren't used to them yet. The more we watch them, the more we start to figure out where the scares are going to be. We start to figure out the plot a little easier. Since this makes a film less scary, I think we start to think about those older films that did get to us. I don't think that todays films are bad, just not as scary as they used to be. Not the films fault though.

yes let us go back to a time when universal studios was famous for its brillant rsnditions of horror movies...it was all filmed in black and white and used very little special effects ..but instead relied on liting ,shadows and great acting to set the mood and evoke fear in our hearts...rember bella lugosui,boris karloff ,lon chaney junior and vicent price ,peter cushing....all superb actors whom defined the genere of horror...LADIES AND GENTLEMEN THIS IS WHERE IT ALL STARTED

i agree with cerebus u know the first film i had watched was "The devil death I & II" these 2 which made me loooooove horrors.U see the special effects were not computerized, but know all of them are. This doesn't mean that they are not good on the contrary they are.

I love all types of horror films from all eras but my personal favourites are the Gothic Horror films from the silent era up to 1960's.
Lets not forget these films were mostly drawn from classic horror fiction such as Mary shelley, Bram Stoker & Edgar Allan Poe to name but a few;
Films such as;
The Cabinet Of Dr Calagari - 1919
Nosferatu - 1922
Vampyre - 1932
The Old Dark House -1932
Dracula - 1931
Frankenstein - 1931
Bride Of Frankenstein - 1935
The Raven - 1935
The Black cat -1934
The Wolfman - 1941
The Picture Of Dorian Gray - 1945
The Curse Of Frankenstein - 1957
The Horror Of Dracula - 1958
The Mummy - 1959
Dracula - Prince Of Darkness - 1966
Fall Of The House Of Usher - 1960
Pit & The Pendulum - 1961
The Premature Burial - 1962
Tales Of Terror - 1962
Masque Of The Red Death - 1964
The Tomb Of Ligeia - 1964
And of course the 1st class performances from Legends such as Boris Karloff, Bela Lugosi, Vincent Price, Peter Cushing, Christopher Lee & Dwight Frye. These are what I would class as great 'old fashioned horror films.'
