Hello!
I was wondering if anyone here might know the title of this horror movie:
I haven't seen this movie, but I have been told that it's a pretty good one. Apparently it's a kind of psychological horror/ghost-movie, not "splatter". It's probably produced/released in the (early?) 80's, though I'm not sure about this. If this movie ever has been a hit, I believe it should be around 1988-89, though this is just a guess.
It's about a married couple, who recently have moved to this new house. Eventually, the house (which I presume is an "older", big(?) house) begins to "tell" a story about some former residents, also presumably a couple, where a murder occured. Exactly who's killing who is a bit unclear, but it's probably really messy.
This story reveals itself to our protagonist-couple in the form of different visions, quite similar to some scenes in "The Shining". In the beginning these visions and signs are of a more calm and "innocent" nature, like lamps that moves etc. (I do not have any specific details regarding most of these).
One of these early scenes involved a vision of a bird (a white parrot) in a cage or just a birdcage. This specific incident happens quite early in the film. Maybe a scene like: "Honey, did the previous owners leave a bird?" or something.
Further into the movie, these visions escalate in intensity, and violence. I believe that before the movie ends, we will have seen the entire murder unfold.
I believe that none of these visions causes any direct harm to our protagonist-couple in any ways, they are merely visions, though quite scary. At least none of the dies, or becomes seriously injured.
In the end our protagonist-couple decides to sell the house and flee, and at this moment we get a twist; the people who decides to buy this house are none other than the same couple we have seen in visions through the movie. A sideplot in this movie could therefore perhaps be some kind of time-travel, allthough I'm not sure on this.
The entire movie development should be somewhat similar to "The Shining".
This movie is NOT Amityville Horror, there are no kind of exorcism, and probably no "external" assistance from what I understand. The couple are all alone. :O
I hope someone here may have a clue. Great thanks in advance!
