Battle Royal North America Release?

Hey, can anyone tell me if Battle Royal has been picked up for North American release yet?

I know Tartan has it available on a NTSC version in Europe but what about America? Anybody hear anything yet?

I knew Miramax was interested or was that Versus? I ferget. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Last I heard the the rights owner was asking too much money for the North American release rights. Odd though that Tartan could afford it but no North American company is willing to pay the asking price.

How much are they asking for? I can't imagine it would go wide in any way, what with Columbine and that sort of thing. But, it could potentially do well on the art house circuit.

Apparently the producers want an obscene amount of money for the rights and nobody has been willing to pay it, so it's been pulled.

Given the cult nature of Japanese films in North America and the current domestic situation, I don't think 'BR' would go over very well.

ShriekShow is releasing 'Versus'. Watched the bootleg(?) release, the flick rocks mighty ass.
